Archaeology Festival
From 12 noon to
4:30 pm, $4 per person, under 4 free (Delaware
Academy of Science members half price).
Celebrating its
10th Anniversary, the Iron Hill Museum’s
Archaeology Festival will explore food through
the ages! This great event will allow young and
old to see how we use archaeology to explore the
history of something as common as our food and
traditions surrounding food. Learn what it means
to be an archaeologist and what interesting
things we can find out about history through
archaeology.
Make sure you
check out the real excavation with local
archaeologists, explore the historic pit cooking
demonstration, make a clay pot, try your hand at
archery, watch the Native American presentation,
listen to speakers from different cultures talk
about their food traditions, celebrate our 10th
anniversary by visiting our 10 year display,
help us cut the anniversary cake, and much, much
more!! |

The American Revolution at
Iron Hill Museum
Live - by Campfire
It is the evening
of September 3, 1777—the night following the Battle
of Cooch’s Bridge. Several participants—soldiers,
civilians, Americans, and British—have gathered
around fires to try to make sense of the events they
have experienced over the last few days. In the
woods you will find two camp fires—one of American
soldiers and local families, and one of their
British counterparts—soldiers and camp followers.
Characters are based on actual participants in the
events or on accounts of people who were living in
the area or were in the armies at the time. They
know little of the grand strategy, and since it is
1777 they know nothing of the outcome of the war.
They do know this war has affected them, their
friends, neighbors and communities. |
